You come in to work Monday morning, fire up the computer, and there it is: the dreaded blue screen. You instantly begin to sweat because you stayed late Friday to finish up that PowerPoint presentation that your boss is expecting you to bring to the sales presentation that starts in 20 minutes!
At that moment, what would it be worth to you if you had a backup of your data? You never really realize what your data is worth to you until you lose it. Don’t wait until it’s too late…BACK UP YOUR DATA!
Until September 30th, you can back up your data for less than 26¢ per day. The Verbatim USB 2.0/Firewire 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive with 250GB Capacity is on sale until September 30th for $94.99.

I’ve been a PC for as long as I’ve been using a computer. I use SyncToy by Microsoft® to synchronize the important data on my computer’s hard drive to my USB external hard drive. This tool allows you to copy, move, or synchronize your data between two storage locations. It’s very easy to use and to customize. For more detailed information on SyncToy, go to Microsoft’s website.
That being said, I am going to be making the switch over to Mac very soon. So, if anyone has any suggestions for an easy synchronizing tool to use on a Mac, they would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, now that I’ve talked about backing up your data on-site, it is also important to back up to a location that is off-site. If you keep your computer and your backup in the same location, what if the unthinkable happens — there is a fire, a tornado, a hurricane, a flood, etc. — now what do you do? Not only is your original data destroyed, but your only back-up is gone as well. I use a great remote backup service called Carbonite. It works with your PC or Mac, it securely backs up your data in the background, and best of all…you can try it for FREE! You don’t need a credit card and there is no obligation. I started using this product about 3 months ago, and I love it. I see the little green lock in the bottom right-hand corner of my computer screen and I know that I’m backed up if something tragic happens. Let me tell you, peace-of-mind is priceless.
Don’t take your data for granted. Your hard drive is a mechanical part which will eventually fail. When it will fail depends on use and age. Don’t risk losing years of hard work and memories because “I don’t have time to back-up”. There are many simple tools that you can use to back-up your data. The time it will take you to set up these tools is a fraction of the time it would take you to recreate years of accumulated data!
